Episode 41 - Interview with Bobo on Long Distance Riding
SHOWNOTES: It’s been another long work week which took me to Baltimore and Washington DC, but as usual, the best part was coming home and settling back into my routine. Marcel is away in Denver this weekend, so I have spent some extra time putting together a special show. I have another interview for you, this time with a legend of the long distance ride and a active member of the Modern Vespa forum. I want to say thank you for all the email you have been sending and if I haven’t gotten back to you yet, please be patient, I will answer you. I have been getting email suggestions for show topics and this show is a direct result of one asking for some discussion about long distance riding. The suggestions was a natural, in that I have been emailing probably one of the best traveled scooterist here in the Untied states, after having met him here in Richmond at the Modern Vespa Workshop. Any of you who belong to the Modern Vespa Forum know him as Bobo. He is Mark Bobotek a veteran of the Cannonball scooter runs and frequent rally attendee. I spoke with Bobo about a week ago, just as one of the first snow was making it’s way into the Washington Baltimore area. As you might expect, he had just returned from the west coast where he did a LA to Tucson to Nogales scooter ride and was settling back into being at home with his family. I think you will find that he is personable and interesting, just the kind of person you could feel comfortable striking up a conversation with, even if you were attending your first rally. Check out some of the things we talk about at Bobos website, the Cannonball Run website and the Alaska Bike Run site.
This is Patrick’s small frame that he rode on the 2006 Cannonball run…it is fast!
Thanks to everyone who entered the drawing to win one “Scooterist,A Way of Life” by Christian Bauer. I have eight consultation prizes in addition to the DVD and will be email all of you to get your shipping address so I can get those out this week. One of the DVDs goes to Melvin McBride, the other DVD goes to Brian Frobisher. I will mail out a specially designed SCTRCST t-shirt to Carlos, Chad, Errol, Bill, Harvey and Carl.

This was just a great show. Mark's descriptions of his long distance riding made me want to give it a try more than ever. Like you Dave, my idea of a long ride is whatever I might do in a day — 150 to 300 miles. I wouldn't mind having some multiday rides creep up on me.
Time is always the issue though.
It was good to hear Mark's endorsement of the reliability of the modern Vespa when in comes to these kinds of rides. I have always sensed that the machines were well made and reliable. And I think I will keep mine stock without mods too.
